Vaginal discharge also known as Leucorrhoea is a normal and regular happening. White discharge is a condition that affects the vaginal area in women. White discharge is a normal and harmless process through which our body flushes out bacteria, toxins and other microbes that enter the body through the vagina. Through this, the body keeps the vagina healthy and lubricated.

That being said, it is important to identify whether the discharge is normal or abnormal. Normal vaginal discharge would be white in colour. Abnormal vaginal discharge may be grayish white, green, brown, yellow, and red in colour along with an unpleasant smell which are dangerous for health. If this is the case, consult a doctor and seek guidance.

Home remedies to treat vaginal discharge


Okra is one of best home remedies. It contains many useful minerals that cures vaginal discharge.


  • 100 grams of okra
  • 1 litre water
  • Honey for taste


  1. Cut okra into pieces.
  2. Boil water.
  3. Add cut pieces and boil further for 20 minutes.
  4. Strain the water.
  5. Allow it to become warm.
  6. Mix honey and stir well.
  7. Drink this through the day whenever you feel thirsty.

Coriander seeds

Coriander seeds have the ability to remove toxins from the body.


  • 3 teaspoons of coriander seeds
  • 1 glass water
  • Sugar or honey


  1. Soak coriander seeds in a glass of water overnight.
  2. Strain the water next day morning.
  3. Add sugar or honey.
  4. Drink on an empty stomach.

Continue drinking for at least a week to start seeing results.

Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek is helpful to treat various problems such as reduced appetite, upset stomach, constipation, erectile dysfunction and other ailments. Drink fenugreek tea for all stomach related problems and vaginal discharge.


  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • 1 cup of water
  • Honey or sugar
  • Tea leaves/ herbs


  1. Gently crush the seeds before making tea.
  2. Boil a cup of water.
  3. Add crushed seeds.
  4. Add tea leaves or any herbs as you like.
  5. Boil for another 3 to 5 minutes.
  6. Strain the water.
  7. Add honey.
  8. Drink when hot or warm.


Amarnath root

The root of Amaranth contains anti-bacterial properties that help in alleviating microbes, bacteria and toxins.


  1. Take a healthy amaranth root.
  2. Grind well into a powder.
  3. Take a teaspoon of this powder and add to water.
  4. Drink twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening for good results.

Rice water

To get rid of fatigue and itchiness on the vaginal area, drink rice water every day.


  1. Wash a handful of raw rice.
  2. Strain and take the water.
  3. Add honey to sweeten it.
  4. Consume this water.


Betel nut

Betel nut is very effective in treating vaginal discharge.


  • Few betel nuts
  • Few rose petals
  • Sugar


  1. Crush betel nuts and rose petals together.
  2. Extract the juice.
  3. Add sugar for taste.
  4. Drink this twice a day.

Turmeric and garlic

Turmeric contains anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-biotic properties. Garlic also contains many medicinal properties and this combination is hence effective in treating white discharge and cures infection and itchiness.


  1. Crush garlic and make a paste.
  2. Add turmeric and honey.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Consume this twice or thrice a day. (But not more than one teaspoon each time)

Note: Those of you who are not used to consuming garlic on a regular basis, can stick to consuming one teaspoon of this preparation for a few weeks till your body gets used to the herb.


Ripened banana is also a good home remedy to get rid of white discharge. Eat banana with desi ghee twice a day.

Mango seeds

Mango seed or nut can be used to treat vaginal discharge.


  1. Take one mango seed.
  2. Sun dry it.
  3. Grind to make a fine powder.
  4. Take a teaspoon of mango powder and mix it with a glass of water.
  5. Consume this once daily.

Indian gooseberry (Amla)


  1. Take 3 grams of amla powder.
  2. Add 6 grams of honey.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Eat once after food regularly.

Daily intake of this preparation for about two weeks cures leucorrhoea.

Vaginal wash

Lemon juice


  1. Take 2 cups of water.
  2. Add ½ cup of lemon juice.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Clean the vaginal region with this water.

It cleanses vaginal area and relaxes the mucus membranes of uterus.

Guava tree leaves


  1. Take a handful of guava leaves.
  2. Take a litre of water.
  3. Add guava leaves and boil it for half an hour.
  4. Use this water to wash your vaginal area.

Apple cider vinegar


  1. Take one cup of distilled water.
  2. Add one cup apple cider vinegar.
  3. Mix them well.
  4. Use it on the affected area like a douche.

This is one of the fastest remedy to stop white discharge.

Fig and banyan tree bark


  1. Take fig and banyan tree bark.
  2. Sun dry well.
  3. Grind into a powder.
  4. Take one tablespoon of each powder.
  5. Add this to a litre of water.
  6. Boil the water and allow it to become warm.
  7. Wash the vaginal area with this water.

This keeps vaginal tract clean and healthy.

Walnut leaves

Walnut leaves have astringent properties that help in healing infections.


  1. Take a few walnut leaves.
  2. Boil one litre water.
  3. Add leaves and boil further for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Switch off.
  5. Allow it to become warm.
  6. Wash vaginal area with this water.

Do this process at least thrice a day for noticeable results.
