Wild turmeric

Kasthuri manjal, scientifically known as Curcuma aromatica, has plenty of curative properties. It can protect and cure from various diseases like common cold, cough, cancer and skin ailments. When applied topically, it can give you a very healthy and glowing skin.

Kasthuri manjal which is known in English as wild turmeric, is highly used for external application and in many cosmetics too. Like the turmeric used for cooking, this does not stain much on your skin and is hence widely used in skin care.

Please make a note that kasthuri manjal cannot be applied by mixing only with water, as it might leave yellow stain and that may be embarrassing for some. You can add flour, curd or milk, lemon juice and so on depending on the result you want to achieve.

Improves your skin complexion

Kasthuri manjal when mixed with yogurt (or curd) or milk can help you to cleanse the skin and lighten dark spots and blemishes

  • Take 2 spoonful of yogurt or milk
  • Add a pinch of kasthuri manjal
  • Mix it nicely to form a smooth paste
  • Apply it all over the face like a mask
  • Leave it to dry and wash it off cold water

You can use this mask twice a week.

To reduce dark circles

You can use kasthuri manjal regularly to reduce dark circle on your skin.

  • Take 1 spoonful of milk
  • Add a pinch of kasthuri manjal
  • Mix and make a smooth paste
  • Apply it around your eyes on the dark circle
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water after 10 minutes

This process can be done on a daily basis for better results. Please ensure that the mixture does not go inside your eyes, as it may irritate.

Helps to cure acne and pimples

The anti-bacterial property in wild turmeric helps you keep acne/pimple at bay.

  • Add a pinch of kasthuri manjal with honey
  • Apply only on the affected area
  • Leave it for 15 minutes and wash it off with cool water

You can also add tulsi (basil leaf) extract along with honey, as tulsi also has anti-bacterial properties.

This can be done on a daily basis.

For younger looking skin and to reduce wrinkles

  • Take 3 or 4 spoonful of curd (yogurt)
  • Add a pinch of turmeric powder
  • Mix well to form a thick paste
  • Massage the mix on your skin like a scrub for 10 minutes
  • Leave it on your skin for 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water
  • Pat dry with soft towel

To remove unwanted facial hair

To remove unwanted facial or thin hair, kasthuri manjal is highly effective.

  • Warm 2 spoon of virgin coconut oil
  • When it is lukewarm, add a pinch of kasthuri manjal
  • Massage it nicely in the areas where you need to remove unwanted hair
  • Wash it off with mild soap or face wash

Use it on a daily basis to get rid of unwanted facial hair. This is a more natural method where there are no side effects like itching or redness in skin like waxing or laser treatment.

Controls oiliness of skin

  • Take 2 spoons of sandalwood powder or paste
  • Add 3 spoons of orange juice and a pinch of kasthuri manjal
  • Mix and form a smooth paste
  • Apply it on your face like a pack and leave it for 20 minutes
  • Wash it off with warm water

The Vitamin C in orange helps to tighten the pores and the astringent effect of sandalwood makes your skin fresh. This combination reduces the oil secretion and keeps your skin fresh.

Face pack for glowing skin

  • Take 2 spoons of gram flour
  • Add 2 spoons of thick yogurt
  • Add a pinch of kasthuri manjal and sugar
  • Mix nicely to form a thick paste
  • Apply the mix like a pack on your face
  • Leave it to dry for 30 minutes
  • Wash it off with lukewarm water

This combination cleanses, tightens the pores and gives you a refreshing look to your face. You can use this pack once or twice a week.

Kasthuri manjal for babies

As Kasthuri manjal is natural and has lot of medicinal effects, it is very good when you use on your baby’s skin.

It is traditionally used for girl babies’ right from the beginning. It is said to help remove unwanted hair from the body, so that when she grows up, she need not spend much time and money at parlors.

  • Warm coconut oil and cool it down
  • Add a pinch of kasthuri manjal to it
  • Massage it nicely on your baby
  • Wash it off with mild soap

Kasthuri manjal can be used along with natural body wash powders for babies, instead of soap.

  • Mix 1 spoon of kasthuri manjal to a small bowl of gram flour
  • Store it in an air tight container
  • Use it like a scrub to clean your baby’s skin
  • Wash it off with warm water

The gram flour acts like a scrub. It helps to remove dead skin, dirt and keeps the skin fresh. You can apply warm coconut oil before bath for your baby so that moisture is retained in the baby’s tender skin.

Note: Since, kasthuri manjal has the property of removing unwanted facial hair, many parents ask if the above mixture can be used as a bathing powder for baby boys. The answer is – YES it can be.
