Betel leaf herbal tea cure indigestion

Betel leaves have long been used in India. These leaves are chewed along with flavouring agents like edible lime and betel nuts for flavor. But the leaf as such has properties that can cure indigestion due to which it was chewed after food.

This herbal tea is made using betel leaves. It also uses to other ingredients which both soothe the digestive system as well as provide relief from indigestion and heart burn.

Betel leaf herbal tea to cure indigestion – DIY

  • 2 Betel leaves ((Vettrilai in Tamil and Paan leaves in Hindi))
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Cardamom
  1. Wash and keep betel leaves ready.
  2. Tear or chop the leaves. Just rough pieces will be enough since we would be boiling them. Grinding the leaves would cause some wastage of betel juice. We hence chop them.
  3. Take cardamom and cloves in a mortar.
  4. Crush them well with a pestle.
  5. Take 150 ml of drinking water.
  6. Pour the water in a vessel.
  7. Add the betel leaves to water.
  8. Boil the water along with the leaves for around 3 – 5 minutes.
  9. Once the water has boiled well, add the crushed spices to it.
  10. Simmer the flame and leave the leaves and spices to steep in for 5 minutes. Switch off and allow the preparation to become warm.
  11. Strain into a glass with a strainer or a clean piece of cloth.
  12. The betel leaf tea is done. It tastes really good. The spices add a lovely flavour to the tea!

Drink this tea twice or thrice a day after food to cure indigestion.

Keep the dosage to one ounce and do not drink too much of the tea. Although there are no known side effects, moderate consumption is always good.
