Fuller’s earth clay

Fuller’s earth clay is a very popular clay that is used for facial masks. This sedimentary clay works like a skin lightener and absorbs impurities from the skin. People who have excessive oil on their skin can use fuller’s earth clay to remove excess oil and impurities. Regular use of this clay, reduces the scars and pimple marks on the skin. It works like a bleach. Fuller’s earth clay contains magnesium, silica, iron, calcium and dolomite. This clay powder is available in market and it comes in different colors – brown, white, green and blue.

How to use

Ingredients required

  • Fuller’s earth clay – 2 spoons
  • Rose water – 1 spoon
  • Sandalwood powder – 1 spoon
  • Honey – few drops
  • Water – if required

Method

  1. Take all mentioned ingredients (other than water) in a ceramic bowl.
  2. Mix well to form smooth paste.
  3. Add water if required.
  4. Apply the paste evenly all over the face like a mask (do not apply on the eye lids and lips).
  5. Leave the mask on your skin until it dries naturally.
  6. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  7. Pat dry with a soft towel.
  8. Apply light skin moisturizer if required.

Fuller’s earth clay might cause dry skin as it absorbs oil from skin. Hence it will be suitable for people with oily skin. You can use this clay mask once a week.

French Green Clay

French green clay works wonders for oily skin just like fuller’s earth. This clay tightens the pores and also exfoliates the skin. French green clay gets its color from decomposed plant matter and iron oxide. When applied on the skin, it absorbs excess oil, removes dead skin and impurities. This mask can give tingling sensation on the skin when applied like a mask. That is because it induces blood circulation and brings blood to the skin layers. This makes the skin look beautiful. The color of this clay is green and very green. If you see this clay in white or any other color in supermarkets, it will be easy for you to not buy as it is fake.

How to use

Ingredients required

  • French green clay – 2 spoons
  • Water – as required

Method

  1. Mix the clay with required amount of water to form a smooth paste.
  2. Apply the paste on the facial skin and neck like a mask (do not apply on the eye lids and lips).
  3. Let it dry for 10 minutes.
  4. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  5. Pat dry with a soft towel.
  6. Apply face moisturizer if required.

You can use this clay once a week on the face and every day on the acne/pimple affected areas.

Kaolin Clay

Kaolin clay is also called as white clay. This clay is commonly found in soaps, cosmetics and powders that are manufactured all over the world. It is very easy to use and is mild on sensitive skin. This clay does not absorb like fuller’s earth and French green clay, it stimulates the blood circulation effectively. Kaolin clay also comes in various colors – white, red, yellow and pink. This clay mask do not cause dry skin and is suitable for all.

  • Kaolin clay – 2 spoons
  • Rose water – 1 spoon

Method

  1. Mix the clay with rose water to form a thin paste.
  2. Apply the paste on the face and neck like a mask (do not apply on the eye lids and lips).
  3. Let it dry naturally on your skin.
  4. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.
  5. Pat dry with soft towel and apply face moisturizer.

You can use this clay mask twice a week for glowing skin. Red color kaolin clay powder has shown results to absorb excess oil when compared to other colors.

Bentonite Clay

Bentonite clay is composed of old volcanic ashes. This clay is well known for its skin benefits. It has good absorbing properties and helps to absorb excess oil from skin. It is also known to exfoliate your skin by removing impurities and dirt. When this clay is mixed with water, the molecules in the clay gets charged. This process attracts and absorbs toxins from the skin. This clay mask also helps in treating people who suffer from psoriasis and eczema.

Rhassoul clay

This clay is obtained from the Atlas Mountain in Morocco. Rhassoul clay is found only in this region and is exported to all parts of the world. It is formed because of volcanic activity and geothermal changes in that region. This clay has been use for skin and hair care since ancient times. Rhassoul clay contains many essential minerals in it and it is very good for all skin types. Studies show that this negatively charged clay absorbs all impurities and toxins from the skin.
