Indian spinach pasalai keerai amla anemia

Pasalai keerai in Tamil, popularly known as Indian spinach is a dark green leafy vegetable. The iron present in Pasalai is helpful to maintain good levels of hemoglobin. This is achieved by carrying oxygen to the tissues and carbohydrates back from the tissues. This process increases the red blood cells and correspondingly hemoglobin level. The iron in Amla and Indian spinach also increases energy levels. Dietary fiber aids digestion and enhances energy levels to prevent anemia.

The tutorial here shows how to use Indian spinach and make a healthy herbal drink. Regular consumption of this drink can cure anemia.

DIY – Indian Spinach (Pasalai Keeri) to cure Anemia

  • 5 – 6 leaves Indian Spinach (Known as Pasalai Keerai in Tamil)
  • 1 tablespoon Dried amla (Known as Nelli mulli in Tamil)
  • 1 teaspoon Palm sugar
  • 200 ml Water
  1. You will need fresh leaves of Indian spinach, dried amla (Indian gooseberry available in native medicine shops) and palm sugar to make this drink.
  2. Wash and clean Indian spinach leaves.
  3. Tear them into small pieces to make crushing easy. You will notice that the juice of the leaves has a gel like texture.
  4. Place the leaves in a mortar and crush them well.
  5. You do not have to make a paste but just crush them as shown. This helps us get a better extract when the leaves are boiled. Keep this aside.
  6. Pour water in a vessel.
  7. Allow the water to start boiling.
  8. Add dried Amla fruits to the hot water.
  9. Let the dry fruits boil in the water for 2 – 3 minutes. Since the fruits are really hard, this boiling is required to soften them and get the extract.
  10. Add crushed leaves to boiling water.
  11. Allow the leaves to boil in the water for around 5 minutes.
  12. Add palm sugar and stir for a minute.
  13. Switch off and allow the drink to become warm.
  14. Strain well using a strainer or a piece of clean cloth.
  15. Drink when warm! I love the taste of this drink. Those of you who like spinach would enjoy this drink.

You can consume this drink (150 ml) everyday without side effects till you find a cure. Like many natural remedies, continue for 48 days (known as one Mandala) to find relief from anemia.
