Rose face pack

Usage of rose flower for the beautification of skin, has been in practice since ancient times. Though there were no cosmetics in olden days, they used rose (face mask)and its extracts for healthy skin as a natural treatment. There are many benefits that rose provides when applied externally on the skin. The most popular use of rose in day to day beauty routine, is rose water. If you have not used it, you might have at least heard of it once.

The rose extract or petals can be either directly used on the skin or can be added with any other natural ingredient for better results. Other ingredients may be oil, face pack or even water.

History – Usage of rose for its benefits

Many know the fact that rose has been in use since ancient times, for its beauty in a vase and for its benefits provided when consumed/applied externally. But since when? You might be surprised to know that it has been in use for health and beauty, since 7th Century AD.

It was used initially in the Middle East and in Iran. Many have found its origin to be from Greece. They were used in essential oils for the fragrance and medicinal benefits it procured. It was part of the regular beauty regimen among women in Greece. No wonder, they looked like royals in ancient periods. However, Rose water was invented in the 11th century AD. Since then, it has been extensively used in all parts of the world. It is also cultivated in many countries, exclusively for extracting its essential nutrients.  (1)

Rose extracts have been a popular ingredient in many products. Let us look into the benefits of rose for skin. (2)

Natural anti-inflammatory

The natural anti-inflammatory property of rose, makes it ideal for treating skin rashes or allergies. You just need to apply the extract of oil, either in the form or oil or water or added as an ingredient in a face pack. When regularly used, it reduces inflammation on the skin.


Rose extract or rose flowers by itself, are anti-bacterial by nature. This property helps to heal and treat acne/pimples on the affected skin. It not only treats, it also prevent recurrence of acne/pimple, when used regularly,

Rich in anti-oxidants

Rose being a rich source of vitamin C that helps to treat cell damage effectively. The anti-oxidants in it helps to slow down the ageing process and also protects skin from free radicals.


The essential oils in rose helps to increase moisture in skin and it also helps the skin to retain moisture for longer duration. Regular usage of rose or rose extracts on your skin can help you prevent dryness and itchiness caused by dryness.

Soothes the skin

Rose helps to soothe rashes and itchiness caused by allergies or infections. It not only calms the irritated skin, natural aroma or fragrance of rose, helps to soothe/calm stressful mind. Hence it is used in many cosmetics and perfumes, to calm the mind.

Tones the skin

The natural astringent property in it helps to tone the skin and tighten pores. This helps to protect skin form dirt and pollutants.

Improves tone and glow

Regular use of rose extract on your skin helps to increase skin tone and boosts glow.

Helps to remove dark circles

Rose extract or rose petals can be applied on the dark circles to remove the dark skin stone. Regular use on the eyes can also reduce puffiness and tiredness on your skin.

Other ingredients

This DIY explains how to prepare a face mask using dried rose, yogurt and honey. When dried rose petals are combined with yogurt, it helps to moisture the skin even more. Regular use of yogurt on the skin helps to hydrate and lock moisture for longer duration.

The other ingredient mixed in this face pack is honey. Honey is also natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and is loaded with high amounts of anti-oxidants. When applied on the skin, it helps to reduce aging, improves moisture, improves skin tone, reduces acne/pimples and also protects skin against pollutants.

When these ingredients are combined, it can help your skin glow and prevent acne/pimples. It not only does that, it prevents dryness, allergies and rashes.

This face pack can also de-tan and give you glowing complexion (not to be mistaken for ‘fair skin’). This face mask has such a lovely fragrance and the ingredients are so tempting that you would want to eat it for dessert!

In general, the ingredients mentioned in the face pack do not cause any allergies or side effects. They are absolutely safe for everyone including pregnant mothers and elderly people.  

How to make hydrating dried roses face mask- DIY

  • 2 tablespoons Dried rose blossoms
  • 1 tablespoon Yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon Honey (Organic raw honey)
  1. Take dried rose blossoms, homemade yogurt / curd and raw organic honey.
  2. Take the dried rose flowers in a blender.
  3. Blend on high – you would not get a fine powder but you would be able to get a coarse powder. This still works well because rose petals soften beautifully when mixed with yogurt,
  4. Take 2 teaspoons of the rose flowers powder in a bowl.
  5. Add honey.
  6. Now add the fresh yogurt / curd.
  7. Mix well. Keep mixing till the ingredients blend well.
  8. You will get a creamy face mask as shown.

Directions for use:

  1. Apply the pack on your face and neck.
  2. Leave it on for 20 minutes.
  3. Wash off with cold water – while washing, gently massage the mask like a scrub and then wash off.

You can apply this face pack daily in the evening.
