Eosinophil is a kind of white blood cell which develops and grow in the bone marrow. Increase of eosinophil above the prescribed level in blood is called eosinophilia, a health disorder needing treatment depending on the symptoms. The most common cause for increase in eosinophil and the consequent disorder called eosinophilia is an allergic condition like asthma. Eosinophilia also may be due to parasitic infestation.

If the eosinophil count in the peripheral blood is above 7%, the person is said to be affected by eosinophilia. The percentage level is ascertained by a simple blood test in a laboratory. Eosinophilia itself is not a disorder but may be a sign of some other medical condition warranting treatment, sometimes urgent.

Eosinophil has the potential to damage healthy tissues and needs to be contained within the permissible level. Eosinophilia is a kind of bronchitis causing inflammation in the respiratory system due to which nasal blockage, cough and breathing difficulties arise.

Simple home remedies for eosinophilia

Based on the symptom, eosinophilia can be cured by following some of the home remedies that are effective in reduction of eosinophil.

Neem juice

Neem is considered both antiseptic and disinfectant. This tree is known as ‘Sarva Roga Nivaarani ‘in Indian Ayurveda. The juice of neemhas the potential to purify blood and cure blood disorders. Neem juice removes the toxins from the blood and clears the respiratory system. The extract from leaves and fruits of neem tree is referred to as neem juice. In addition to reducing the eosinophil level, neem juice controls phlegm, wheezing and breathing disorders.


The common herb stored in the kitchen for daily use is turmeric. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic. While the benefits derived from turmeric are both culinary and medicinal, it is one of the finest home remedies for reducing suffering due to eosinophilia. By simply burning a dried turmeric root under direct flame and inhaling the smoke coming out from the charcoal, you can find immediate relief to the respiratory system and reduce eosinophil.

Pepper is used in Indian cuisine and medicine for a very long time. It is a regular spice used in the preparation of various dishes for its flavor and a mildly pungent taste in addition to the medicinal properties. Black pepper is an expectorant and a very good anti-inflammatory agent. It relieves congestion and clears the stuffy nose due to increase in eosinophil.

To derive the benefit from pepper, a glass of hot water mixed with a teaspoon of pepper powder can be consumed thrice a day. By doing this, the respiratory system is completely cleared of all infections and the eosinophil concentrated in various parts are removed. By using a mixture of pepper powder with sesame oil as a sniff clears the sinuses. Burning black pepper in direct flame and inhaling the smoke gives instant relief from running nose or nasal blocks formed due to eosinophilia.

Steam inhalation

Those suffering from eosinophilia have both cough and mucus.   You can inhale steam to open the nasal passages which are blocked due to mucus. Inhalation of steam from boiling water with a few drops of eucalyptus oil gives immediate relief.

Drink water

By consuming plenty of water, toxins in the blood and other harmful wastes from the body are excreted through urine and the mucus is diluted. Eosinophil also drain through the nose simultaneously providing greater relief.

Consume vegetables and fruits

Consumption of more vegetables and seasonal fruits improves the immune system and enhance resistance level.  The process of healing eosinophilia is also enhanced as the fiber and other nutrients in vegetables and fruit improves digestion and excretes eosinophil and other wastes from the body.

Consumption of holy basil leaves, juice prepared from Malabar nut and ginger tea are useful in providing relief from the sufferings of eosinophilia in addition to reducing the eosinophil count from the blood over a period of time. Gargling boiled hot water with some fenugreek seeds is also an effective remedy in eosinophilia treatment.

Tulsi Mouthwash

Eosinophilia affects the esophagus or the food pipe. In such cases, consuming food items that cause heart burn must be avoided. Particularly fried high fat foods, garlic and onions are harmful and escalate the problem. Banana and yogurt aggravate the problems due to eosinophilia by increasing the production of mucus. Staying away from mites, dust and other allergens is essential to get rid of eosinophilia.

Practicing some of the asanas of yoga is effective in improving the immune system and keeping the body healthy. Follow yoga therapy only under the guidance of a teacher. People of different age group must follow the appropriate asan as advised by their teachers. Asanas recommended for elders are pavan muktasan group asans and makarasan.  A number of other asans that are taught can be adopted by many and it can be a good treatment for eosinophilia.
