Manathakkali flower and leaves to treat ulcer

Manathakkali, also called as black night shade or Solanum Nigrum, is a plant which is found in plenty. It is very famous for the medicinal benefits in it and the berries in it. It is found that it has been used in Ayurveda and Sidha since ancient times to treat many health ailments. They are popular to treat ulcer in mouth and internal body parts. The anti-inflammation property of this herb helps to reduce inflammation and reduces the irritation.

When consumed internally, they can improve the general health. The diuretic nature of the herb, helps to flush out toxins by increasing the amount of urine excreted. When berries are consumed, it treats acidity and gastritis. Leaves of this plant can be consumed like any other spinach and greens after cooking. The berries can be sun dried and stored for long term use. Dried berries also contain the same medicinal properties like the fresh berries.

As a word of caution, berries that are not ripe (green in color) should not be consumed as it contains solanine, which is toxic. One should consume only berries that are ripe – dark purple in color.  

Ulcers are majorly caused by gastrointestinal issues. Solanum nigrum or black night shade, has medicinal property that reduces gastritis and eases the tissues in the intestines. This also reduces inflammation and reduces accumulation of gas.

How to use black night shade

  • 5 or 6 Black night shade leaves ((manathakkali leaves))
  • 3 or 4 Black night shade flowers ((manathakkali flowers))
  • 50 ml Coconut water
  1. To treat ulcer, you need black night shade leaves, flowers and coconut water (water inside a coconut).
  2. First, separate leaves and flowers from stem. Clean them and place it in a mortar.
  3. Add few drops of coconut water and crush it.
  4. Add the crushed leaves and flowers to coconut water.
  5. Mix well and consume.

Instructions for use:

Consume the drink once or twice everyday to treat and cure ulcer.
