Let us set one thing straight… Dark skin is beautiful. But getting an uneven skin tone because of sun tan doesn’t make your skin look great. These remedies are for reducing sun tan and the intention is not to promote the concept of ‘fair skin’.

Sun tan is the result of exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sun light. The regular use of chemical products also can create a tanned look.

Home remedies to reduce skin tan

Here are some simple home remedies with the available resources at home to clear your tan.

Aloe vera face pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of multani mitti (Fuller’s earth)
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
  • Rose water

Method:

  1. Take multani mitti powder.
  2. Add this to aloe vera gel.
  3. Mix it well.
  4. Add rose water to dilute the mixture and to make a smooth paste.
  5. Apply this pack on your face and neck.
  6. Leave it for half an hour.
  7. Clean your face with cold water.

Aloe

Sandal wood face pack

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of Sandalwood powder
  • Coconut water
  • Almond oil

Method:

  1. Take sandalwood powder in a bowl.
  2. Add a few teaspoons of coconut water to it.
  3. Add few drops of almond oil.
  4. Mix well and make a thick paste.
  5. Apply it on your face and neck.
  6. Leave it for 20 minutes.
  7. Wash off with water.

Sandalwood can also reduce acne, dark spots and reduce the occurrence of pimples. Sandalwood can soothe your skin and act as a coolant.

Cucumber face pack

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon cucumber juice
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon rose water

Method:

  1. Take all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Mix it well.
  3. Take a cotton ball.
  4. Dip cotton in this mixture.
  5. Apply it on the sun tanned areas.
  6. Leave it for 10 minutes.
  7. Rinse with cold water.

Apply this mixture every day evening after your daily outdoor activities.

Tomato face pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons tomato pulp
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt

Method:

  1. Take tomato pulp in a bowl.
  2. Add lemon juice and yogurt.
  3. Mix them thoroughly.
  4. Apply it on the sun tanned area.
  5. Allow it to dry 30 minutes.
  6. Rinse with cold water.

Some with sensitive skin may feel a mild irritation due to the use tomato, but it will settle down with regular application.

The quantity specified above would be enough for 3 – 4 applications. You can store in your refrigerator and use it.

Oat meal face pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons oat meal
  • 3 tablespoons butter milk

Method:

  1. Take oat meal and butter milk in a bowl.
  2. Mix both together.
  3. Apply it on the sun tanned areas.
  4. Gently massage for a couple of minutes.
  5. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Wash off with water.

Gram flour face pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons gram flour
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • A tablespoon milk
  • A tablespoon dried orange peel powder
  • Rose water

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Make a thick paste.
  3. Gently apply this pack on your face and neck.
  4. Leave it for 20 minutes.
  5. Wash off with water.

Apply this pack once in two days to get good results.

Potato face pack

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method:

  1. Peel the potato.
  2. Cut into pieces.
  3. Blend well to make a smooth paste.
  4. Take the paste in a bowl.
  5. Add lemon juice and mix well.
  6. Apply this pack on face and neck.
  7. Allow it to dry for 20 minutes.
  8. Wash off with cold or warm water.

Papaya face pack

Ingredients:

  • 1 small cup of ripe papaya pulp
  • 1 tablespoon honey

Method:

  1. Take papaya and mash it well.
  2. Add honey.
  3. Mix it and make a thick paste.
  4. Apply it on face and neck.
  5. Allow it to dry for 30 minutes.
  6. Wash off with water.

Papayam

Orange face pack

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon yogurt

Method:

  1. Take both the ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Mix it well.
  3. Apply it on the sun tanned area.
  4. Let it dry for 30 minutes.
  5. Wash off with water.

Citrus oranges

Milk powder face pack

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoon milk powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Few drops of almond oil

Method:

  1. Take milk powder in a bowl.
  2. Add honey and almond oil.
  3. Mix all the ingredients and make thick paste.
  4. Apply it to your face and neck.
  5. Leave it for 20 minutes.
  6. Wash off with water.
