Dark circles are also known as periorbital dark circles appear around the eyes. Dark circles can form at an early age but it is more common in older people.

They can be because of different reasons such as eczema, allergy, anemia, tiredness, improper diet, physical or mental stress, long hours of work in front of computer, lack of sleep, and many more.

Home remedies to treat dark circles

Cucumber

Cucumber is effective in treating dark circles. It has skin lightening and astringent properties that helps to soothe and refresh the area around the eyes.

Method 1:

  1. Take a fresh cucumber.
  2. Cut into thick slices.
  3. Keep it in the refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Place the cool cucumber slices over your eyes.
  5. Leave it for 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Repeat the process twice a day.

Method 2:

  1. Grind one small cucumber.
  2. Extract the juice.
  3. Keep it in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
  4. Add some lemon juice.
  5. Mix both well.
  6. Dip a cotton ball in the mixture.
  7. Apply the mixture around your eyes.
  8. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  9. Wash off with warm water.

Repeat the process daily for at least one week.

Almond oil with honey

Organic almond oil also called as sweet almond oil does wonders when it comes to treat dark circles under eyes. Almond oil contains vitamin K, palmatic acid, retinol, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Vitamin K helps improve clotting, reduces discoloration under the eyes. Palmatic acid and retinol acts as a moisturizer, once applied it leaves the skin soft and smooth. Antioxidant property keeps the skin healthy.

Dark circles are caused by pigmentation around sensitive skin of the eyes. Honey has anti-inflammatory and natural bleaching properties in it. This helps to reduce pigmentation and blemishes. It acts as a moisturizer and lightens the skin by improving blood circulation.

Method:

  1. Take one tablespoon of fresh organic almond oil.
  2. Mix it with a tablespoon of raw organic honey.
  3. Apply the mixture around your eyes and gently massage before bed.
  4. Leave on overnight.
  5. Wash off with lukewarm water in the morning.

Repeat the process daily.

Potato

Potatoes are considered as natural bleaching agent. It lightens the dark circles and treats puffiness around the eyes.

Method:

  1. Take 2 small chilled potatoes.
  2. Cut them into pieces.
  3. Place in a blender and blend them well.
  4. Extract the juice.
  5. Dip a cotton ball in the juice.
  6. Flatten the cotton balls with your fingers.
  7. Place the cotton balls on the dark circles.
  8. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  9. Rinse with cool water.
  10. Follow up with a moisturiser.

Repeat the process daily.

Peel potato

Aloe vera

Aloe vera contains vitamins A, C, and E all these are excellent for treating eye problems like dark circles and wrinkles.

Method:

  1. Clean your face and pat dry.
  2. Apply aloe vera gel to the skin under the eyes. (Avoid rubbing)

Repeat daily to get the best results.

Cucualoe

Tomato

Tomatoes are natural bleaching agent and also contains lycopene, the antioxidant which helps lighten the dark circles and brighten skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sized tomato.
  • 1 ½ teaspoon lemon juice.
  • Pinch of turmeric.
  • 2 teaspoons gram flour.

Method:

  1. Blend the tomato into a paste.
  2. Add all the ingredients.
  3. Mix them thoroughly.
  4. Apply this paste on the dark circles.
  5. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  6. Wash with lukewarm water.

Repeat the process thrice in a week.

Green tea bag

Tea bags are full of herb that contain an anti-bacterial element called tannin. Tannins are naturally occurring plant Polyphenols which reduce swelling, pain, puffiness and infection in the affected area. The antioxidant properties help lighten the dark circles.

Method:

  1. Boil one cup of water.
  2. Place tea bags in the boiling water.
  3. Boil further for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the tea bags.
  5. Cool them in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  6. Place the cold tea bag over your eyes.
  7. Leave it for 15 minutes.

Repeat the process twice a day continuously for at least 10 days to get the best results.

Mint

Mint has a natural cooling effect which helps in treating dark circles. The leaves of mint are enriched with nice bleaching properties.

Method:

  1. Take some fresh mint leaves.
  2. Grind them and make a fine paste.
  3. Apply the paste around your eyes.
  4. Leave it for 30 minutes.
  5. Wash off with cold water

Repeating the process daily for 15 days would be very helpful.

Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful substance with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This golden treasure is suitable for all skin problems.

Method 1

Ingredients:

  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder.
  • 1 teaspoon yogurt.
  • 5 drops of lemon juice.

Method:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together.
  2. Make a fine paste.
  3. Apply it under the eyes.
  4. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  5. Rinse with water.

Repeat the process daily for 15 days.

  3. Make fine paste.
  4. Apply it on the affected area.
  5. Leave it for 15 minutes.
  6. Wash off with water.

Other lifestyle changes

  • Eat on time.
  • Sleep at least for 7 hours.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Do not work excessive hours on computer.
  • Exercise daily.
  • Wash your face thrice in a day with cold water.
